Justice Legislation in Texas
During the 79th Legislatiure
--------------------- History of the 2005 session -----------------------------
Session ended with HB240 passed into law and waiting for Governors signature as of 5-26-05. The other bills died in the process but we got further than ever in the past decade!
5-12-05 HB240 has been voted positively out of the Senate Jurisprudence Committee! It will now go on to the Senate floor for a vote.
5-4-05, the Committee Substitute for HB770, identical to CSSB364, was favorably voted out of of the Juvenile Justice and Family Issues Committee. It will now be in the Calendar Committee to be given a time for a vote on the House Floor. Please print out this list of the members of the Calendar Committee and call or email their offices to urge them to support HB770 and schedule it for a full House vote soon.
Begin contacting all members of the Texas House, especially your own representative, to urge their support for C.S.H.B.770
As of 5-4-05 CSSB364 is still in the Senate Jurisprudence Committee as they have not yet voted. Calls to that committee (here is contact information) are more urgently needed to ask that they support CSSB364, the committee substitute filed on 4-20-05. (See video archive at http://www.senate.state.tx.us/avarchive/?year=2005&mon=4 of the 4-20-05 hearing. Testimony starts 1 hour 4 minutes into tape.)
As of 4-27-05 CSSB364 is still in the Senate Jurisprudence Committee as they have not yet voted. Calls to that committee (here is contact information) are still needed to ask that they support CSSB364, the committee substitute filed on 4-20-05. (See video archive at http://www.senate.state.tx.us/avarchive/?year=2005&mon=4 of the 4-20-05 hearing. Testimony starts 1 hour 4 minutes into tape.)
The CSSB364 companion bill, HB770, was heard on 4-27-05 before the House Juvenile Justice & Family Issues Committee. A substitute for HB770 identical to CSSB364 was submitted. (The archived video starts at 56 minutes 30 seconds into the 4-27-05 video found online at http://www.house.state.tx.us/committees/broadcasts.php?session=79&cmte=340.) Testimony again went very well and the bill was left pending. Encourage all the committee members to support the Substitute for HB770 which is identical to CSSB364. (Here is contact information for the house committee.)
