Texas health coverage: who qualifies, and where to go when you do not

If you are uninsured in Texas, something has probably already told you no: too much income for Medicaid, not enough for a subsidy, wrong county, wrong month. I spent four years in that space, and the hospital bill that ended it taught me most of what is on this site. You will find who actually qualifies for Healthy Texas Women, CHIP, Children's Medicaid, and a Marketplace plan; what a community health center charges when you qualify for none of them; how hospital charity care and the county programs work; and what to do when a bill has already gone to collections. Every dollar figure carries the date it was checked, because Texas program rules move. What this site cannot do is decide your case: only HHSC and the Marketplace can do that.
